Why does flocculent precipitation sometimes appear in serum? Should it be removed, and if so, how?
Publication date:2026-10-29
Page views:
Several factors can lead to the formation of flocculent precipitates; the most common cause is the aggregation of lipoproteins during the thawing process. This phenomenon typically does not affect product quality. Centrifuge at 400 × g for 5 minutes, collect the supernatant, and then filter it. Select an appropriate membrane pore size as needed; a 0.22 µm PES‑membrane is commonly used. To prevent membrane clogging, it is recommended to combine the collected supernatant with the culture medium after centrifugation and filter together, rather than filtering the serum directly.
