What CO2 concentration should be used when culturing cells—5% or 10%, or does it make no difference?
Publication date:2026-10-29
Page views:
In most culture media, the HCO3⁻/CO3²⁻/H⁺ system serves as the pH buffer; the concentration of NaHCO3 in the medium determines the CO2 level required for cell culture. When the NaHCO3 content is 3.7 g per liter, a 10% CO2 atmosphere should be used; when the NaHCO3 concentration is 1.5 g per liter, a 5% CO2 atmosphere is appropriate for culturing cells.
