What is the difference between the BrdU assay and the CCK‑8 assay?
Publication date:2026-10-29
Page views:
The CCK‑8 assay assesses cell viability by measuring dehydrogenase activity in cells during the logarithmic growth phase, whereas the BrdU assay detects DNA synthesis.
The CCK‑8 method requires only the addition of a reagent and can be performed using a colorimetric approach, while the BrdU method not only necessitates reagent addition but also involves cell fixation and subsequent detection via a chemiluminescent assay following antigen–antibody binding.
The underlying principles of these two methods are entirely different. If the sole objective is to measure cell proliferation, the CCK‑8 assay is considerably simpler.
