During the thawing of serum, temperature differentials can lead to lipoprotein denaturation and fibrin precipitation. The precipitate itself does not compromise serum quality nor affect experimental results. However, if removal of the precipitate is necessary, it can be eliminated by centrifugation at 500–1000 × g for 5–10 minutes.
