The DMSO used for cryopreservation must be of tissue culture grade, which is inherently sterile. After the first opening, it should be immediately aliquoted in small volumes into sterile tubes and stored away from light. If filtration of DMSO is required, a nylon filter membrane resistant to DMSO must be used.
