When thawing and culturing cells from cryovials, should DMSO be removed immediately?

With the exception of a few cell lines specifically noted as sensitive to DMSO, most cell lines—including suspension‑type cells—should be transferred directly into a culture flask containing 10–15 mL of fresh culture medium immediately after thawing. The medium can then be replaced with fresh medium the following day to remove any residual DMSO, thereby minimizing the risk of post‑thaw growth inhibition or poor attachment.
