What are the grade specifications and the method of sterile filtration for DMSO?
Publication date:2026-10-29
Page views:
The DMSO grade used for cryopreservation must be tissue‑culture grade (e.g., Sigma D2650), which is inherently sterile. After the first opening, it should be promptly aliquoted in small volumes into sterile tubes and stored at 4°C to prevent repeated freeze–thaw cycles that could cause DMSO degradation and release of harmful substances, while also minimizing the risk of contamination. If filtration of DMSO is required, a nylon filter membrane compatible with DMSO must be used.
