Product Description
MEM medium (Minimum Essential Medium), also known as the minimum essential medium, minimal basic medium, or Eagle’s minimum essential medium, is one of the most commonly used basal media in animal cell culture. MEM contains only 12 essential amino acids, 8 vitamins, and a set of basic inorganic salts, making its nutrient composition relatively simple. It is primarily used for the cultivation of adherent cells, but after formulation modifications, it can also be employed for other cell types.
MEM supplemented with non-essential amino acids (NEAAs) is formulated by adding seven NEAAs—L-alanine, L-glutamic acid, L-asparagine, L-aspartic acid, L-proline, L-serine, and glycine—to the standard MEM. This formulation reduces the metabolic burden on cells to synthesize these non-essential amino acids during culture and effectively promotes cell proliferation and metabolism.
This product contains a variety of amino acids, vitamins, inorganic salts, and other components required for cell culture; it does not contain proteins or growth factors and must be used with serum or serum‑free supplements tailored to the specific cell type.
HEPES is a widely used biological buffer that helps maintain a stable pH range in culture media over an extended period, effectively preventing significant pH fluctuations from adversely affecting cell growth.
