Product Description
Quick Cell The mycoplasma detection kit based on a luminescence assay detects the specific enzymatic activity of mycoplasma, thereby determining whether mammalian cells cultured in vitro are contaminated with mycoplasma.
After mycoplasma lysis, the mycoplasma‑specific enzyme, in the presence of its substrate, catalyzes the conversion of ADP to ATP. Since the luciferase–catalyzed oxidation of luciferin to produce light requires ATP, the ATP generated by this mycoplasma‑specific enzyme can be converted into a bioluminescent signal via this reaction. This signal can be detected using a dedicated luminometer or a multifunctional microplate reader equipped with luminescence detection; the intensity of the emitted light is directly proportional to the ATP concentration. By comparing the levels of this mycoplasma‑specific enzyme in the cell culture supernatant and in the supernatant of the culture medium that was not used for cell cultivation, one can determine whether the cultured cells are contaminated with mycoplasma.
