Product Description
Cell proliferation is an important indicator for assessing cellular viability, metabolism, and physiological and pathological conditions. EdU (5-ethynyl-2′-deoxyuridine) is a thymidine analog whose terminal alkyne group is rarely found in natural compounds. During cell proliferation, EdU can substitute for thymine (T) and become incorporated into replicating DNA molecules. By exploiting the specific conjugation reaction between EdU and fluorescent dyes, fluorescent labels can be attached to newly synthesized DNA containing EdU, enabling efficient and rapid detection of DNA replication activity. This technique is widely used in research on cell proliferation, cell differentiation, growth and development, DNA repair, and other related processes.
Traditional immunofluorescence staining methods using BrdU require complex and time‑consuming procedures, such as DNA denaturation, antigen retrieval, and overnight incubation of antibodies with antigens. In contrast, the EdU assay does not necessitate harsh DNA denaturation; it only requires mild cell fixation and permeabilization, which better preserve cellular morphology, the overall DNA structure, and intracellular antigen‑binding sites. This results in a faster, more sensitive, and more accurate workflow. EdU closely resembles thymidine (T) in structure yet is only about 1/500 the size of the BrdU antibody, allowing it to diffuse readily within cells. Moreover, because it bypasses the need for antigen–antibody binding, EdU can more rapidly and conveniently report DNA replication activity at both the cellular and tissue levels.

Q: What is the difference between the EdU cell proliferation imaging assay kit and the EdU cell proliferation flow cytometry assay kit?
A: The EdU cell proliferation imaging assay kit is suitable for use with fluorescence microscopes, confocal microscopes, and similar instruments, but it cannot be used for flow cytometry. In contrast, the EdU cell proliferation flow cytometry assay kit is compatible with fluorescence microscopes, confocal microscopes, and other imaging platforms, as well as with flow cytometers. Both kits can be used to analyze both adherent and suspension‑type cells.
