Product Description
The mitochondrion is a double-membrane–bound organelle found in most eukaryotic cells, often referred to as the “cellular power plant,” as it generates the majority of the cell’s ATP. In addition to supplying energy, mitochondria are involved in processes such as cellular differentiation, signal transduction, and apoptosis, and they also regulate cell growth and the cell cycle. Existing literature indicates that mitochondria are implicated in human diseases, including mitochondrial disorders, cardiac dysfunction, and aging. Although most of the cell’s genetic material—DNA—is housed in the nucleus, mitochondria possess their own independent genome, which is inherited maternally. Owing to these characteristics, mitochondria have become a major focus of research in biology and biotechnology.
The Smart Cell Staining Kit is a specialized fluorescence imaging tool developed by Life-iLab. The kit is meticulously designed, with very few manual steps required. It can be used to label cellular organelles and subcellular structures, such as the cell membrane, mitochondria, and the nucleus.
The Smart Cell Mitochondrial Staining Kit enables the labeling of mitochondria in live cells, imparting a red fluorescence (Ex/Em = 575/600 nm) suitable for use with a Texas Red filter. The kit employs a hydrophobic compound that serves as a mitochondria‑selective dye; this dye readily enters live cells, permeates the mitochondrial membrane in response to changes in mitochondrial membrane potential, and accumulates within the mitochondria. The Smart Cell Mitochondrial Staining Kit provides a complete set of reagents for mitochondrial labeling, offering a range of fluorescent colors—including blue, green, red, and orange—allowing for both single‑color staining and multiplexed fluorescence analysis. This highly efficient cellular labeling approach offers a powerful tool for investigating cellular processes across both spatial and temporal dimensions.
