Product Description
Lysosomes are organelles within cells characterized by a single‑membrane‑bound, sac‑like structure. They are often likened to the cell’s “enzyme warehouse” or “digestive system,” as they contain numerous hydrolytic enzymes capable of breaking down large particles—such as food engulfed by the cell or pathogenic microorganisms—into smaller biomolecules. The resulting waste products are expelled from the cell via exocytosis. Lysosomes also degrade a wide variety of substances and, during cellular differentiation, can digest certain aged organelles and macromolecules that have become trapped within them. The pH inside the lysosomal membrane is approximately 4.5–4.8, enabling these digestive enzymes to function under acidic conditions, whereas the cytoplasm outside the lysosome has a pH of about 7.2. The lysosomal membrane actively pumps H⁺ ions from the cytoplasm into the lysosome, thereby maintaining this low internal pH. + Maintain this pH gradient between the inside and outside of the lysosome.
The Smart Cell Lysosome Staining Kit*Red* enables the labeling of lysosomes in live cells, imparting a red fluorescence (Ex/Em = 575/597 nm). The kit employs a hydrophobic compound as the dye, classified as a lysosome‑targeting probe. This dye readily permeates intact living cells, selectively accumulates within lysosomes, and remains sequestered there due to the distinct pH gradients across the lysosomal membrane. Once inside the lysosome, the fluorescence is markedly enhanced and highly stable. Leveraging these properties, the kit is suitable for applications such as microplate assays, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry, supporting a wide range of research areas—including studies on cell adhesion, chemotaxis, multidrug resistance, cell viability, apoptosis, and cytotoxicity. It is applicable to both proliferating and non‑proliferating cells and can be used with both suspension‑ and adherent‑type cell cultures.
The Smart Cell Lysosome Staining Kit is a specialized fluorescence‑imaging tool developed by Life‑iLab. The kit is meticulously designed, with very few manual steps required. It can be used to label cellular organelles and subcellular structures, such as the plasma membrane, lysosomes, and the nucleus. The Smart Cell Lysosome Staining Kit provides a complete set of reagents for lysosome labeling, offering a range of fluorescent colors—including blue, green, red, and orange—tailored to each cellular structure. It can be used as a standalone staining method or supports multiplexed fluorescence analysis of cells. This highly efficient cell‑labeling approach offers a powerful means of investigating cellular processes both spatially and temporally.
