Product Description
OP9 (Chinese name: mouse bone marrow stromal cells) is derived from the cranial vault of newborn op/op mice. Due to a mutation in the gene encoding M-CSF, OP9 cells are unable to produce functional macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF). The presence of M-CSF inhibits embryonic stem cell (ES) differentiation into hematopoietic lineages other than macrophages. OP9 cells can be co-cultured with mouse embryonic stem cells to induce their differentiation into erythroid-, myeloid-, and B‑cell lineage–derived blood cells. Co-culture with OP9 cells does not require exogenous growth factors or complex embryonic structures, making this system valuable for investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying hematopoietic cell development and differentiation. The typical cell morphology is fibroblast‑like, with adherent growth. Species: mouse; Cell type: stromal cell; Cell source: mouse bone marrow.
