Product Description
Study on bond strength in vancomycin–peptide complexes; plant cell culture experiments. It is a narrow-spectrum antibiotic, effective only against Gram-positive bacteria. Its mechanism of action involves high-affinity binding to the D-alanyl-D-alanine terminus of peptidoglycan precursors in susceptible bacterial cell walls, thereby inhibiting the synthesis of the polymeric peptidoglycan that constitutes the bacterial cell wall and leading to cell-wall defects and bacterial death. In addition, it may also alter bacterial membrane permeability and selectively inhibit RNA synthesis. Vancomycin hydrochloride is characterized by potent bactericidal activity against Gram-positive bacteria; oral administration demonstrates good efficacy in treating pseudomembranous colitis caused by Clostridioides difficile. It exhibits strong antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and others, and also exerts some antibacterial effects against anaerobic streptococci, C. difficile, Bacillus anthracis, actinomycetes, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, viridans streptococci, bovine streptococci, and fecal streptococci. However, it is ineffective against most Gram-negative bacteria, mycobacteria, rickettsiae, chlamydiae, or fungi.
