Product Description
Kanamycin sulfate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that exerts inhibitory effects against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as mycoplasmas. Its mechanism of action involves binding to the 70S ribosomal subunit of bacteria, thereby inhibiting ribosomal translocation and inducing misreading, which further disrupts protein synthesis. Kanamycin sulfate can be used in cell culture to suppress bacterial contamination. In molecular biology research, it is commonly employed for the selective screening of bacterial clones that have successfully taken up the kanamycin resistance gene (kan gene). It is also frequently utilized in Agrobacterium‑mediated transformation experiments to selectively screen plant tissues harboring the npt II (APH3) gene. This product is readily soluble in water (50 mg/mL) and must be filtered to remove microorganisms prior to use; the recommended working concentration is 30–100 µg/mL.
