Product Description
Amphotericin is a polyene antibiotic produced by Streptomyces nodosus strain M4575. It consists of two components, A and B: component A exhibits low toxicity but weak antifungal activity and is not used clinically, whereas component B possesses potent antifungal activity and is known as amphotericin B. Amphotericin B is a polyene antifungal agent that inhibits fungal growth by disrupting cell membrane permeability. Clinically, it is indicated for the treatment of severe systemic or visceral infections caused by deep‑seated fungi. This agent demonstrates strong inhibitory or fungicidal activity against a wide range of fungal pathogens, including Cryptococcus neoformans, Candida albicans, Histoplasma capsulatum, Blastomyces dermatitidis, Sporothrix schenckii, Mucor species, and Coccidioides immitis. Amphotericin B is the drug of choice for the management of invasive fungal infections.
