Product Description
PicoGreen is an extremely sensitive fluorescent dye for double-stranded DNA that emits fluorescence only upon binding to dsDNA, with the intensity of the emitted fluorescence directly proportional to the DNA concentration. In the presence of ssDNA, RNA, and monomeric nucleotides, it can selectively detect dsDNA at concentrations as low as 25 pg/mL. Compared with conventional DNA quantification methods, it offers the following advantages: Advantages:
Sensitivity: It is more sensitive than UV absorbance readings and can help conserve samples.
High specificity: It binds exclusively to dsDNA, exhibiting high specificity and remaining unaffected by common sample contaminants. In contrast, conventional UV absorbance methods are susceptible to interference from single-stranded DNA, proteins, RNAs, and other substances present in the sample.
Good tolerability: It tolerates high concentrations of salt, urea, ethanol, chloroform, detergents, proteins, or agarose, allowing direct quantification of PCR products without prior DNA purification from the reaction mixture.
Wide linear range: PicoGreen dsDNA dye quantifies DNA concentration with good linearity over the range of 100 pg/mL to 100 ng/mL.
Easy to operate: Add a dye to the sample, incubate for 5–6 minutes, and then take a reading; this method is compatible with both 96- and 384-well plates and works with most fluorescence‑based microplate readers.
This product is suitable for a wide range of applications, including DNA sample analysis, PCR analysis, microarray sample processing, DNA damage assessment, enzyme activity assays, quantitative genomic DNA analysis, detection of double-stranded DNA in complex mixtures, and viral DNA quantification.
