Product Description
TAE is a widely used nucleic acid electrophoresis buffer in biology, primarily for agarose gel electrophoresis of DNA. When TAE is employed as the running buffer, double-stranded linear DNA migrates relatively quickly. For fragments larger than 13 kb, TAE is generally recommended for separation by electrophoresis. TAE is well suited for DNA fragment recovery; however, due to its limited buffering capacity, it is not advisable for prolonged electrophoresis, such as overnight runs. When high resolution is not critical, either TAE or TBE may be used; for higher resolution requirements, a lower‑concentration gel enhances the resolution of high‑molecular‑weight nucleic acids, making TAE the preferred choice, whereas a higher‑concentration gel improves resolution of low‑molecular‑weight nucleic acids, favoring TBE.
The main components of TAE buffer are Tris-acetate and EDTA-2Na. In 1× TAE buffer, the concentration of Tris-acetate is 40 mM, and the concentration of EDTA-2Na is 1 mM.
This product is a white powder; each sachet of TAE powder can be used to prepare 1 L of 1× TAE buffer, making it extremely convenient to use.
