Product Description
Cyanine 5.5 has a wide range of applications; it is not only used for labeling biomacromolecules but also serves as a derivatizing reagent for certain small molecules. Maleimide is commonly employed to label thiols, and compared with other thiol‑specific fluorescent probes such as FITC and TRITC, Cyanine 5.5 maleimide exhibits superior reaction selectivity. As a near‑infrared dye, Cyanine 5.5 maleimide is frequently utilized for labeling the amino groups of peptides, proteins, and oligonucleotides, and it is also widely applied in in vivo imaging of small animals. By avoiding the visible light region where many substances absorb, this dye takes advantage of the deep penetration of near‑infrared light in biological tissues and minimizes background fluorescence arising from tissue autofluorescence, thereby enabling signal generation in deep tissues. In particular, within the 700–900 nm wavelength range, both water and hemoglobin exhibit minimal absorption, allowing near‑infrared light to penetrate up to 15 cm into tissue. Moreover, these dyes offer a level of biosafety that cannot be achieved with UV‑active dyes or isotopic labels. Cyanine 5.5 (Cy5.5) is one of the most widely used near‑infrared fluorescent dyes.
Cyanine 5.5 maleimide requires a cosolvent, but its lower hydrophobicity compared to Cyanine 7 makes it more widely applicable. Li Ji Bio offers cyanine 5.5 maleimide in the form of triethylammonium salts, which are more soluble than the potassium‑salt form marketed by other companies. With identical optical properties and reactivity, this formulation provides superior solubility.
Cyanine 5.5 maleimide exhibits broad-spectrum chemical properties similar to those of Alexa Fluor 680 maleimide and DyLight 680 maleimide, making it a suitable alternative.
