Product Description
Cyanine 5.5 has a wide range of applications: it can be used not only for labeling biomacromolecules but also as a derivatization reagent for certain small molecules. Compared with other fluorescent reagents that label aldehyde groups—such as FITC and TRITC—it exhibits higher reaction selectivity.
Cyanine 5.5 Hydrazide is a near-infrared dye that, in addition to labeling the amino groups of peptides, proteins, and oligonucleotides, is frequently employed for in vivo imaging in small animals. By avoiding the visible-light region—where many biomolecules exhibit strong absorption—the near-infrared light it absorbs penetrates biological tissues more deeply, while the emitted fluorescence is less affected by background signals from the tissue itself, enabling signal generation even in deep tissues. In particular, within the 700–900 nm range, both water and hemoglobin exhibit minimal absorption, allowing near-infrared light to penetrate up to 15 cm into tissue. Moreover, these dyes offer a level of biosafety that cannot be achieved with UV‑excited dyes or isotopic labels. Cyanine 5.5 (Cy5.5) is one of the most widely used near-infrared fluorescent dyes.
Cyanine 5.5 Hydrazide requires a cosolvent, but its lower hydrophobicity compared to Cyanine 7 makes it more widely applicable. Li Ji Bio offers Cyanine 5.5 Hydrazide in the form of triethylammonium salts, which are more soluble than the potassium‑salt form offered by other companies. With comparable optical properties and reactivity, this formulation provides superior solubility. The hydrazide moiety of the conjugated hydrazide is commonly used to label aldehyde groups on biomolecules, while maleimide is frequently employed for labeling thiol groups.
Cyanine 5.5 Hydrazide exhibits broad-spectrum chemical properties similar to those of Alexa Fluor 680 Hydrazide and DyLight 680 Hydrazide, making it a suitable alternative.
