Product Description
Isopropyl β-D-1-thiogalactopyranoside (IPTG) is an active inducer of β-galactosidase and is commonly used in blue–white screening as well as for IPTG‑induced protein expression in bacteria. When pUC‑series vector DNA (or other vectors carrying the lacZ gene) is transformed into host cells lacking lacZ, or when M13 phage‑based vector DNA is used for transfection, adding X‑Gal and IPTG to the agar plate allows for convenient selection of recombinant clones based on whether white colonies (or plaques) appear, owing to the α‑complementation phenomenon of β‑galactosidase. Furthermore, IPTG can also serve as an inducer for expression vectors harboring promoters such as lac or tac.
