This product, Aforen, is a ready-to-use, sterile anesthetic whose active ingredient is tribromoethanol (TBE). It is an unregulated drug that has been recommended as an anesthetic for surgical procedures associated with the passage of transgenic mice. It is administered by intraperitoneal injection, which is simple and convenient; onset of anesthesia occurs in less than 5 minutes, and the duration of anesthesia ranges from 24 to 90 minutes. It is intended solely for the anesthesia of rodents (mice and rats).
