Product Description
Penicillin–Streptomycin–Amphotericin B (Penicillin-Streptomycin-Amphotericin B Solution) is a commonly used antibiotic mixture in cell culture, often referred to as the “three‑antibiotic cocktail.” It is the most widely employed antibiotic regimen for preventing microbial contamination in vitro and is typically prepared as a 100‑fold stock solution. Penicillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis and is effective against Gram‑positive bacteria; streptomycin binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit of bacteria, thereby suppressing protein synthesis, and is active against both Gram‑negative and Gram‑positive organisms, particularly the latter; amphotericin B binds to ergosterol in fungal cell membranes, disrupting membrane integrity, increasing permeability, causing leakage of intracellular contents, and impairing normal metabolism, thus exerting fungistatic activity, though it is ineffective against bacteria. The combined use of penicillin, streptomycin, and amphotericin B can effectively prevent contamination by the vast majority of bacteria and fungi.
This product is prepared with water for injection and sterilized by filtration through a 0.1 μm filter. Recommended working concentrations (this product is recommended to be diluted 100-fold): Penicillin, 100 U/mL; Streptomycin, 0.1 mg/mL; Amphotericin B, 0.25 μg/mL.
