    Hank’s Balanced Salt Solution (HBSS) is one of the commonly used phosphate-buffered solutions for cell dissociation or culture, with its main components including NaCl, KCl, KH… 2 PO 4 , Na 2 HPO 4 , NaHCO 3 , CaCl 2 , MgCl 2 , MgSO 4 and glucose. Hank’s Balanced Salt Solution is commonly used for rinsing tissue explants, washing cells, transporting cells or tissues, preparing other reagents, and as a diluent for cell counting, among other applications. Compared with PBS, HBSS contains nutrients such as glucose, making it better suited for maintaining cell viability during short-term exposure outside the culture medium.
