Product Description
Hygromycin B is an antibiotic produced by Streptomyces hygroscopicus that inhibits protein biosynthesis in bacteria, fungi, and certain higher eukaryotic cells. It belongs to the aminoglycoside class of antibiotics and exerts its antimicrobial effect by blocking protein synthesis, thereby suppressing the growth of both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.
This product is prepared by dissolving hygromycin B in deionized water and subjected to sterile filtration. It is commonly used for resistance screening in transgenic experiments, enabling the selection of cells harboring hygromycin B–resistant genes.
