Product Description
Geneticin (G418), also known as genetic antibiotic, is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits protein synthesis and exhibits cytotoxicity against bacteria, yeast, higher plants, and mammalian cells. It is widely used for the selection and maintenance of eukaryotic cells stably transfected with neomycin resistance genes derived from transposons Tn5 and Tn601, and is frequently employed in gene transfer, gene knockout, resistance screening, and transgenic animal studies.
This product is sterile‑filtered and typically used at working concentrations ranging from 50 to 1,000 μg/mL. The optimal concentration should be determined empirically for each cell type. In cells with a relatively stable genome, such as CHO cells, once a stable cell line has been established, further culture can proceed without the addition of G418. It is the most widely used reagent for selecting stably transfected cells resistant to genetic selection.
