Product Description
Puromycin (PM) is a protein synthesis inhibitor that possesses a structure similar to the terminal end of tRNA molecules, enabling it to bind to amino acids. It can substitute for aminoacylated tRNA by binding to the A site of the ribosome and become incorporated into the growing polypeptide chain. Although puromycin can bind to the A site, it cannot participate in subsequent reactions, thereby terminating protein synthesis and releasing an immature polypeptide with puromycin attached at its C‑terminus. The molecular weight of puromycin is 544.43 g/mol, and its CAS number is 53‑79‑2.
This product is prepared by dissolving high-purity raw materials in deionized water; if necessary, it should be filtered through an organic membrane prior to use in cell culture. The puromycin solution (1 mg/mL) has a molar concentration of 1.84 mM, and the typical working concentration ranges from 10 to 100 μM.
