Product Description
Rifampicin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic with potent activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and varying degrees of antibacterial efficacy against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Its CAS number is 13292-46-1, and its molecular weight is 822.94 g/mol. Its bacteriostatic effect stems from inhibition of bacterial RNA polymerase, thereby blocking DNA and protein synthesis. In biological research, rifampicin is commonly used to select for or eliminate bacterial strains harboring plasmids; clinically, it is indicated for the treatment of tuberculosis, enterococcal infections, and other conditions.
This product is prepared by dissolving rifampicin in DMSO; if necessary, it should be filtered through an organic‑compatible membrane prior to use in cell culture.
