Product Description
MEM (Minimum Essential Medium) It is a commonly used cell culture medium. MEM can be employed for the cultivation of various suspension- and adherent‑dependent mammalian cells, including HeLa, BHK‑21, 293, HEP‑2, HT‑1080, MCF‑7, fibroblasts, and primary rat astrocytes, among others.
MEM It was developed by Harry Eagle, building on his earlier Basal Medium Eagle (BME) formulation. Since then, numerous modifications have been introduced to MEM, including Glasgow’s MEM, MEM α, DMEM, and Temin’s modified medium. MEM contains Earle’s balanced salts for CO2 incubators or Hanks’ balanced salts for CO2‑free incubators; this product is formulated with Earle’s balanced salts. MEM does not contain proteins, lipids, or growth factors; therefore, it requires supplementation, typically with 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS). MEM employs a sodium bicarbonate buffering system (2.2 g/L), necessitating an environment with 5–10% CO2 to maintain physiological pH.
