    M199 The medium was initially developed for nutritional studies on chicken embryo fibroblasts. It exhibits broad species compatibility and is particularly well suited for the culture of non‑transformed cells. M199 medium is widely used in virology, vaccine production, and the in vitro culture of primary explants derived from mouse pancreatic epithelium and rat lens tissue.

    Compared with other basal media, M199 contains unique components, including adenine, adenosine, hypoxanthine, thymine, and several other vitamins. M199 is formulated either with Earle’s salts for use in CO2 incubators or with Hanks’ salts for use in non-CO2 incubators.
